Diseases of the retina cause severe and debilitating vision loss.

Specialty Overview

Diseases of the retina cause severe and debilitating vision loss. Our retina physicians diagnose and treat macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, tumors, inherited retinal disease, retinal detachment, macular holes, and other important retinal diseases.

The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Retina Center houses research projects seeking to find solutions for people of all ages who suffer from retinal conditions. The clinical research center at the Jacobs Retina Center enables patients to benefit from the latest advances in diagnostic equipment and therapies. Researchers working in the Center’s laboratories apply the power of genetics and stem cell research towards the treatment of blinding diseases.

Patient Testimonials

I have normal vision for the first time in 40 years.

I am as grateful as I can be. Shiley is a great institute.

I had a lazy eye for over 40 years but, two days ago I had surgery at Shiley Eye Institute and my surgeon, Dr. Robbins, realigned my eye in less than two hours. For the first time in 40 years both of my eyes are facing in the same direction at the same time. It is almost like a miracle but it's actually Dr. Robbins skill and dedication. She has literally changed my life's trajectory.

Recognition Due ...

I want to express my utmost satisfaction and gratitude to Dr. Weinreb and staff the way they handled my case last week and the surgery. I came for an eye exam with Dr. Weinreb on a Wednesday. He felt I needed a surgery right away and very kindly scheduled me for surgery the next Monday. I was extremely happy at how smoothly everything worked. The surgery immediately reduced my eye pressure dramatically. That’s great news!

I can’t thank Dr. Weinreb and his team (fellows Drs. Yarmohammadi, MD and Yonge, MD) enough for the quality care provided to me. Dr. Weinreb cares so much for his patients and wants to know everything about the status of his patients after surgery – he gets personally involved!

Thank you all so much!
